USB EDGE MODEM INTERFACE
USB Edge modem, as it says is a USB interfaced modem which can be used to browse the net in laptops which are compatible. The application is as desktop application, used by regular PC users or Office users. Since the interface reaches a wide range of audience, design of such an interface is a challenging task.
This interface needs to ease the usability as well as present a rich look and feel, considering the landscape of other such interfaces user is familiar with.
WHAT IS TO BE DESIGNED?
One of the most important requirements was to make the entire application visually appealing and thus enhance the experience of using the product. The entire interface had to be redesigned with new experience, look and feel. Existing interface of the product does not showcase many options required by an user. Keeping in view the tasks that can be performed by an user and the functional aspects the interface needed to be intuitive, with easy to understand terminology and icons.
Since the features and functions were defined, and hence, the navigation, the scope of this project was more or less defined in terms of visual design, detailing of icons, splash screens and overall visual experience.
PROCESS
Think Design was involved in complete UCD process of the product, since this product finds a varied set of users from business users to casual surfers.
Designing started with a study of similar applications and getting an understanding of the functions and features. Based on the study and the present interface flow, a new visual language has been defined. This helped us in designing the new user experience.
Visual elements and color charts were determined by creating “Personas”. This task was comparatively easier since it was easy to find our target users. Personas were creating after interviewing a set of users through sales channels of the company.
Refreshed interface designed by Think Design was well coordinated for pixel perfect implementation.
Further, Think Design also developed package design and Label design for the physical product. A common identity was carried through for standardization.
